Week 8 Rankings – Fantasy Football 2018

So I have to say I can’t believe it’s already week 8. The 2018 season is essentially half way over. The off-season feels so long while the season just flies by. Now first for some seriousness.

I’m so sorry I missed last weeks rankings and I’m also sorry the podcast is essentially on hiatus. I live in Salt Lake City Utah, but last Monday I got a call from my Mother that my Father was being admitted to the ICU in Lecanto Florida. The report seemed to be he suffered a stroke. I was on the first flight out on Tuesday morning. A week later, and after being airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, we now know, thanks to a lumbar puncture, he did not suffer a stroke but has come down with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS).

If you have not heard of this disease, you are in the same boat I was in just a week ago. The good news is, it’s not fatal, and most patients recover. The bad news, right now it has rendered him completely paralyzed. He is able to answer yes or no questions at times with blinks but that is it. This is one of the worst things that could happen to my dad. He is a hard working, do it myself at all times hard headed man and being mentally aware, yet trapped inside his body, has to be his waking nightmare. The doctors seem confident he will recover but it will take months and a lot of physical therapy.

With that said, I was able to get my rankings done this week, but it was researched and written completely on my phone, which, thank goodness is possible, but also means I am not going to be doing the full write up for each section as I usually would. Let’s get to the rankings so you can get those lineups in. It’s time to make a push for the playoffs!

————QUARTERBACKS————

Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, Dak Prescott, and Marcus Mariota are on bye this week and you should honestly only be missing two of those options. There are some good streamers this week if you need to fill in for Marty Ice or Rivers though. If you need a backup QB, Dak may be worth the flier to see how Amari Cooper can help the Dallas passing game when they are back next week.

Some options I like if you need a fill in for week 8 are; Alex Smith, with New York moving on from two talented pieces on defense, I think Smith can have one of his better games of the season in a divisional match against the suddenly understaffed Giants. Case Keenum, while KC shut down Dalton last Sunday Night, I am not buying into the KC defense as much as I am the Andy Dalton primetime narrative. In case you had no idea, this guy has been TERRIBLE in primetime games throughout his career (16 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, with a total QBR of 36.4. According to ESPN Stats and Information)! The last option is Sam Darnold, don’t be too scared off by the Chicago Defense, sure he may have a turnover or two, but Chicago’s secondary is their weakness and I could see Sam throw for good yardage and land a TD or 2 if you are in a tight spot.

————RUNNING BACKS————

Big names missing this week are Ezekiel Elliot, Melvin Gordon, Tevin Coleman, and (maybe) Dion Lewis. Man what is going on with Derrick Henry?! I was not expecting much this season and he has still found a way to disappoint.

Some options out there to help out if you are getting killed with injuries this season are Kapri Bibbs, Devontae Booker (yea he’s still a thing), and possibly Aaron Jones (someone may have given up on him and I think that’s a mistake, the talent will win out here).

————WIDE RECEIVERS————

Not a lot missing this week outside of Julio “I’ll Never Score TDS Again” Jones and the LA Chargers Williams’s (Philip Rivers has thrown 14 TDS from week 2-7 this season, ZERO of those have gone to Keenan Allen). Corey Davis has been almost as frustrating as Derrick Henry. I’m hoping Mike Vrabel can get this ship corrected, but it feels like we are just ALWAYS hoping for the Titans to get going and they never do.

Also I know you are tired of hearing it, but it’s deserved, Adam Thielen has been incredible this season! If he goes over 100 yards this week, he ties the all time record for 8 100 yard games in a row with some guy named Calvin. Cousins will get him there, he’s my WR#1 this week. He’s earned that.

————TIGHT ENDS————

Not much missing here on byes this week. If you need some help at the position go out and grab Michael Roberts from Detroit. He had a big game last week and that was on the heels of a TD game the week before that. Stafford is finally finding a redzone receiving threat outside of Golladay.

Jack Doyle is back after being out due to injury and while I do not have him ranked because I am not sure HOW healthy he is, I’d add him if I need a TE. Luck has thrown a eye popping 20 TDS this season (only behind Pat Mahomes record 22) and Luck loves his TEs. He has made Eric Ebron, a former 1st round cast off, into a must start TE option in fantasy. Both can be fantasy relevant with Luck slinging the rock.

I am also am high on the rookie from Miami, Chris Herndon. While everyone was screaming Mike Gesicki, I liked Herndon all off season and now he has had back to back TD games. He could be a big help if you need something at the position and is a dynasty must add.
