Well by this point I think we are all glad week 4 is here and we can leave week 3 in the rear view mirror. It was a wild one where a whole lot of unexpected stuff happened *cough*Buffalo beat the snot out of Minnesota*cough* So I have nothing really left to say about week 3, lets forge ahead to week 4.
We also start the byes in week 4 which means streaming is coming into play for some people. Luckily there are a few great streaming options this week!
Week 4 teams on bye; Carolina Panthers, Washington Redskins.
We had our first big loss at the QB position this week with Jimmy Garoppolo tearing his ACL. The worst part is most commonly the effects are felt in all aspects of the skill players fantasy gamers are rolling out weekly for the team. C.J. Beathard has some experience from last year, but it was not great. It’s hard not to see this as another lost season for the 49ers. I’m selling all players from that squad that I can.
For all you streamers out there, if you listened to the podcast you know I am high on Andy Dalton and Case Keenum as streaming options this week (and Dalton for the next few weeks). I also think this is a good week for Eli Manning, despite being without Evan Engram, he will get the ball to Odell, Shepard, and Saquon A LOT this week against a New Orleans defense that is giving up points to pass catchers like mad this season. I would fire up Eli for at least this week as a low end QB1 in a heartbeat.
Last weeks leading rusher Christian McCaffrey is on bye this week and options on the waiver wire have already gotten thin. It doesn’t take long to remember how important getting this position right in the draft is each year. Rex Burkhead is the newest player lost in 2018 to the IR as well and more than likely James White and Sony Michel are already scooped up in your leagues. Kenjon Barner would be a good deep league stash just in case anything happens to either of those guys as well.
Some bigger moves for this week are Kerryon Johnson, who I think gets another 100 yard rushing game and into the end zone this week for the Lions. Johnson has looked like the best RB on this team through 3 weeks and it is time to give him a larger work load. Detroit will and he will deliver against the Cowboys on Sunday, moveing him into RB1 territory this week. I also think while the young fella has himself a day, an older cat gets some love as well out in Oakland. Cleveland has been GOOD against the pass but not so much the run. Gruden is the kind of guy that wants to keep Baker off of the field and he is gonna do that with Marshawn this week. He gets 17-20 carries for a cool 90 yards and a TD this week for the Raiders who have a chance to get their first win this week as well, but it won’t be easy for them, they will need Lynch to play well.
I’m expecting Baltimore to employ the same strategy with Alex Collins against Pittsburgh on Sunday night. Last time Collins played the Steelers he ran for 120 yards, had 46 receiving yards and a touchdown. Collins is Baltimores best bet to win this game with the way Big Ben has been throwing the ball lately. Keep him on the sidelines John. I am worried about James Conner though, watching Steven Ridley come in and take snaps for whatever reason is not great news. His touches have dropped each week so it was good to see him come in late on MNF and have his biggest runs of the night come when the team needed them the most. Hopefully they get back to running him like they did in week 1.
Last player I wanna discuss is Sony Michel. He is getting crazy hate on twitter which is so dumb to me. That offensive line played HORRIBLE in that game, Josh McDaniels called a BAD game as well and Sony looked like a guy who missed the preseason and was playing in his second NFL game. In the words of Aaron Rodgers R-E-L-A-X! This kid is a special talent and by the end of the season those super hot takes of “Sony sucks” are gonna come back and kill your credibility. Take a breath, sit back, and just enjoy the Patriots annual “oh you thought we were bad but actually we aren’t” drama play out.
I said last week and I meant it, Michael Thomas will remain at WR1 on my rankings until he gives me a reason to remove him. All he did this past week was go out and post 10 catches for 129 yards in a big divisional win for New Orleans. So guess where he is this week? Yup WR1. He is leading the league in reception yards with 398 on 38 catches from 40 targets! Yea thats right his 93.3% catch rate from last week actually went UP!! He now owns a 95% catch rate on the season. This kid is unbelievable.
A guy that should join him at the top this week that we are used to seeing up there is Odell Beckham Jr. This should play out much like last weeks game against Atlanta for New Orleans. The Giants come to town and Eli should have one of his better statistical days of 2018. Fire up Odell, Fire up Sterling, Fire up Saquon, even Fire up Rhett possibly too! This game has the 2nd highest projected points total, behind only KC/DEN at 50 points. Get in on this action.
Another high points projected game is Atlanta/Cincinnati and thats one I want in on as well. Atlanta is a bit banged up on the defensive side of the ball right now and the Bengals will be able to take advantage. I already talked about Dalton this week but Green, Boyd, and Bernard are all top plays this week. I even suspect Tyler Eifert finds his way into the endzone. For the Falcons, I also think Julio finally gets that 2018 TD chip off his shoulder. Ridley and Sanu are good plays as well in deeper leagues.
In the same boat as Michael Thomas at WR, I plan on just leaving Travis Kelce at TE1 until Gronk or someone else gives me a reason to move him from that spot. I mean I need someone to come in and just throw him out of there sort of like Vance McDonald did to Chris Conte. I mean Vance threw that man to the IR. I can’t believe charges still haven’t been filed! I loved what I saw from Vance on Monday Night but I need to see more consistent usage from him, I am slotting him as a low TE1 this week just in case Jesse James is not truly dead and gone yet.
This week I expect Kyle Rudolph to have a strong start for the TE position this week against a Rams secondary that has been giving up a lot of points to that position and now being down Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, I expect things get a bit worse for the Rams. They still have that monster defensive line but I think Cousins gets the ball out early and often to his reliable pass catcher this week. I am calling for Jimmy Graham to finally make an end zone appearance as well and enjoy his first regular season Lambeau Leap.
Trey Burton should have his best week yet for this season against a TB team that has been bleeding points to the TE and with Anthony Miller “day-to-day” with a shoulder injury. I expect Mitch to look Burtons way a bit more often than he has so far this season. Some other risers for this week are David Njoku with Baker behind center, Dallas Goedert with Carson Wentz back in action, and Tyler Eifert could jump up if A.J. Green misses any time or leaves early if he re-aggravates that injury from week 3.
There are some solid streaming options for the week out there in week 4. My favorite is Green Bay, don’t be scared off by last week, again this week things get back to normal and the Packers are able to handle business in GB this week. Seattle should have a good day against rookie QB Josh Rosen in his first start and Cleveland will have another good week even with traveling all the way across the country. Winning feels good, especially when you know what its like to NOT win for so long, these two teams meeting in Oakland are heading in different directions.
Other good plays this week in a pinch are; Tennessee, New York Jets, and Arizona.
|3||Los Angeles Chargers||SF|
|8||Los Angeles Rams||MIN|
|10||New York Jets||JAX|
And remember, after this week we are already a quarter of the way through the 2018 NFL season. If moves fast, don’t forget to stop and just enjoy it for a moment or two!
